New: Step 2

imageThis past weekend I “competed” in my first competitive event post college. I would like to utilize the word compete here lightly as I by no means was the one to beat. For those of you with enough will and desire to see my results…best of luck!

I’ve gotten off track here. This second step (see step 1) at taking on Nordic skiing was an all-out battle against my mind. The 30KM race which started at 6,600ft elevation, climbed over a mountain pass at 7,800ft and then descended to 6,000ft was an emotional roller coaster. My schizophrenic brain went something like this:

Lake Tahoe: An Introduction

Tahoe-1

It’s time we start giving you a small glimpse into our daily lives (well, the good snippets of them). My world… Lake Tahoe. While this location has not necessarily been deemed my forever place, it is my perfect place for right now. I am five months into my third year in Tahoe. Five months into my best year yet.

The Pros:

There is a never ending list of adventures to be had. Rock climbing, hiking, waterfalls, natural hot springs, biking, skiing, car camping, hike-in camping, boat camping, insert another type of camping. With these adventurous options come adventure seeking people. Every friend I have made has amazing stories to share. I can’t help but invite myself to join in on everything they do. While this often involves me panting behind them and envying their peak physical condition…I am making progress. As a former resident of San Francisco, I also find the proximity to the big city to be a major plus. The guy and I often find ourselves craving a good meal and great cocktails (see the cons), and at just over 3 hours away, impromptu weekend trips are often made.

Adventure awaits

Can’t stop dreaming of traveling. Costa Rica is next on the list. A three week getaway. This country has it all for my ideal warm weather retreat. Thrilling adventures and calming beaches. Oh how I love to escape. Always interested in having friends join or meeting people along the way! (hint).

Lost

Untitled designAs a lifelong lover of all things Disney the minute I decided to write this post an image of the undefinable creature from Disney’s Lilo and Stitch inserted itself into my mind. First, because viewing this film was the pivotal moment when I realized I had become my mother and was incapable of making it through any movie (even a Disney movie) without crying. And second, because I can relate to his sensation of being completely and utterly lost.

I feel you my friend. I feel you.

New to me

1

Let me begin with this. I LOVE ADVENTURE. I LOVE IT. While it is something I state often, I rarely partake in the new and unknown. Partially because one of the many joys of aging is the pleasure of becoming more acquianted with the voice of fear, “hello there jerk!” And also because it is easy to continue doing things you’ve already learned with the equipment you already own than try the new. But, alas, every once in a full moon I find myself giddy with joy as a new adventure opens itself to me. Enter nordic skiing at night.

Balance

Piggybacking on Allie’s recent post, because after all this space is a collaboration of us three, my word to live by for 2016 is *Balance*. I am notoriously an all or nothing lady. A trait I was lucky enough to inherit from my father. Some classic examples:

  1. From working out everyday for two months to no workouts for three months straight.
  2. From working 80+ hour weeks with no time for play to going to work and internet surfing for three days in a row.
  3. From regularly scheduling catch up calls with friends and family (or constant online chats and emails while invested in the later half of no. 2) to cutting off all communication for months.

This is my year of balance. Not just work life balance but ALL balance.

The biggest perk about working on this blog together, is getting to spend more time with Allie and Kendall albeit virtually. It has been fun getting to know them in a more creative capacity. They are both truly talented, and I can’t wait for you to hear more of their voices. But first, we’ll put into words how we see each other.

We’ve shared laughs and tears, wine and whiskey, jokes and advice. She is the girl you want to have in your corner. I would like to introduce you to my dear friend, Allie.

When she gets going on a topic she is passionate about, it’s hard not to get swept up in her excitement. At the same time, she is an amazing listener. She wants to hear about what you think and keeps an open mind to everyone’s opinions. She is incredibly thoughtful and wants to make sure that every voice is heard. Allie is who I look to when I need good music. Her Spotify playlists often fill my workdays and weekends. She is definitely a master curator of moods when it comes to music!”

I always want to hear her opinion on topics. She has many hidden talents and not so hidden hobbies (reading, writing, music, dance… what else Allie?!). Allie can also go from deep to childish in less than five seconds as she pulls up the latest YouTube video or gif that has her girlish laugh going over and over again.”
